Examines the overt as well as the subtle cinematic elements that depict, ponder and persuade concerning issues of the environment and the role of humans regarding nature, animals, and the human-made landscape.

Introduction to University Discourse: Ethical Issues in Emerging Technologies (Fall)

Seminar explores rhetorical principles and conventions of university discourse. Providing intensive practice in analytical writing, critical reading, and speaking. Examines the ethical challenges resulting from the constant changes caused by the rapidly accelerating pace of change brought on by science and technology. Students may not receive credit for this course and Crown 80B.

Crown 80J Cyborg Society: Myths, Realities, Choices (Winter)

Course is an interdisciplinary research seminar to examine the content and methodologies of the emerging field of cyborgology. Includes social studies of science, anthropology, sociology, politics, philosophy, art, biology, and informatics.

In recent years outbreaks of food borne illness have alarmed farmers and consumers alike. The course examines the complexities of ensuring food safety in the complex natural, economic and social settings that characterize US food production systems.

A study of the impact of the natural sciences and science-based technology on the values of individuals and social groups, and on the quality of human life. A writing intensive lecture course with weekly section meetings.
