Up to eight Research Fellowships to be awarded by Crown College annually.
Goal
The goal of this program is to encourage student-faculty interaction through
undergraduate research. To accomplish this goal Crown College will provide
800 dollars for the fellowship. $600 will be provided as a fellowship to
the student and $200 will be provided to the faculty member’s research
account and may be spent for equipment and supplies for the research project.
Eligibility
Eligibility is limited to juniors or seniors during the quarters for which
they are applying and who have good to excellent academic records. Either
the student or faculty member must be affiliated with Crown College. Preference
will be given to applications in which both parties are members of the Crown
community. The likelihood that the student will benefit from advanced instruction
in the proposed area is a key consideration in the selection of successful
applications.
Requirements For The Award
The student must enroll in a 5-unit independent study (CRWN 199) with
the faculty member during Winter or Spring.
The student’s research must culminate in a report describing his/her
research OR a copy of their thesis (if this project is part of a thesis)
due in the Crown College Provost office three weeks before the end of
the quarter per the Academic & Administrative Calendar (Winter Quarter
due Feb. 26/Spring Quarter due May 20).
Students are also encouraged to submit their project for their Division's
Dean's Award.
Receipt Of Funds
The Provost will review each student application and award the fellowships
by November 8. The faculty member will receive his/her portion of the
award at the beginning of the fellowship quarter. The student will
receive his/her portion from Financial Aid approximately 2 weeks after
the report is turned in to the Provost.
How To Get Started
Students are encouraged to approach faculty to offer their services as an
assistant and to arrange for the independent studies (Crown 199’s).
Student and faculty member must apply together – each completing a
part of the application form below after discussing the general project
involved. The exact nature of the research project will not have to be decided
by the initial application, however the application form asks for a one
paragraph description of the type of research.
Deadline
Application form for both winter and spring quarter must be completed and sent by e-mail to sgaynor@ucsc.edu
by October 31, 2009.
