Crown Class Material Fund Applications will be available here on September 1st of each year.

Proposal Guidelines 

Types of Projects Considered:

The Crown Class Material Fund offers up to $300 to support individual undergraduate projects by Crown students. These projects may include:

  1. Academic research
  2. Creative initiatives
  3. Artistic endeavors

In addition from all the funded projects, three will be selected for an additional $500 prize and be honored at Alumni Weekend.

Students needing support for independent research projects that may be part of a senior thesis or of a class are encouraged to apply. Both individual and collective efforts are welcome.

Exclusions: Crown Class Material Funds cannot be used to subsidize Education Abroad programs, class enrollment fees, salaries, personal living expenses, or to subsidize ongoing projects or recurring or annual events. Funding for gifts and mementos, including recognition or award plaques will not be approved.

Eligibility and Funding:

  1. The applicant must be a registered Crown College undergraduate studentwhen the proposal is submitted and during the time the funds will be used.
  2. Maximum request is $300. Approximately 25 projects will be chosen in both Winter and Spring quarters for a total of 50 projects chosen for funding annually.
  3. One application per group. If you are applying for a group project, one person will apply for the entire group and that person will be responsible for use and reporting of all funds received.
  4. No project may receive support more than once from this funding source.
  5. The award will be in the form of reimbursement, after submission of original receipts and completed budget form.


  • Winter Quarter Application Deadline: February 18th
  • Spring Quarter Application Deadline: April 13th

Funding decisions will be made one week after each application deadline. Notification will be by email to the address on your application.

Funds will be distributed according to University accounting policies and procedures. Crown College retains the right to end additional funding of this program at the end of each academic fiscal year (June 30th). All awardees will be required to submit original receipts in to amount of (or exceeding) the awarded funds to the Crown College Academic Programs Coordinator in the Crown Provost’s office (, 831-459-2412, Marina Glagolev).

Application Instructions:

  1. Submit complete application form electronically to
  2. Attach a narrative description no longer than ONE typed page. Briefly explain:
  • The purpose of the project
  • How it ties to the academic goals of the student (class, senior thesis, etc.)
  • Any additional information considered relevant (if additional funding is being sought, if it is part of a larger project, endorsement by a faculty member, etc.)
  1. Itemized budget preferably with price quotes from specific vendors.
