    EOP STEM Counselor, Jessica Macias

Hey Crown Slugs! My name is Jessica Macias and I am an EOP STEM Counselor. I am also a UCSC Alumni with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Before joining the SEMILLA/EOP STEM Counseling team, I previously worked as a Frontline Admissions Adviser where I was able to familiarize myself with the process of applying to UCSC and I got to know most of the resources available on campus that I did not know about before. Prior to that position, I was a Programs Manager at a non-profit organization called SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science), where I was responsible for developing and implementing programs to increase awareness about fostering the development of future scientists of color. As a Latina, first-generation, foster youth, and UCSC Alumni, I feel that I am a good proponent of providing opportunities to underrepresented, low-income, first –generation college students by acting as a bridge for students facing adversity to resources and a community of STEM mentors. I plan on being a beacon of resources and guidance to help students in STEM achieve their educational and career goals, by implementing a growth mindset environment, instill self-efficacy and provide a sense of belonging. I look forward to meeting and working you all!

My advising hours at Crown College are Mondays from 9:30-11:30am and 1:30-3:30pm.

Appointments can be scheduled through Slug Success.
