How should my mail be addressed?

Your address is as follows:

Student's Full Legal Name
UCSC, Crown College, #(your box number)
628 Crown Road
Santa Cruz, CA  95064-1102

Make sure you include your full legal name (as it is on your student ID card) in your address (please don't leave it blank). Improperly addressed mail may be delayed, refused, or returned to sender.

To avoid delayed or lost mail, please follow the addressing guidelines below:

-Do not use nicknames or pen names. Our computer system that we use to sort mail only recognizes your full name found on your student ID.
-Do not use 1156 High Street as your campus address.
-Do not put your residence hall room number or apartment number as part of your address.
-Do not use "P.O. Box" in your address as this is not a post office mailbox.

How are mailboxes assigned and where do I get my mailbox information?

All students living in Crown housing are assigned a mailbox.
Mailboxes are reassigned every year. For both new and continuing students, an email containing your mailbox information will be sent to your UCSC email account. Please make sure to save this email for your records.

Some mailboxes are shared; usually 2 students are assigned per box. If you have a box mate, be respectful of their mail and never remove or open mail not addressed to you. It is important to check your mailbox frequently and carefully sort out your mail to avoid an overflowing mailbox.

How do I pick up my packages?

When you receive a package at your college address, we will process it and log it into Notifii (our package management software) and an email notification will be sent to your UCSC email. Once you have received this email, you can pick up your package by presenting your student ID at the mailroom during our posted open hours. To avoid these emails from going into your spam folder, please add crownmai@ucsc.edu to your contacts.

If packages are small enough to fit inside your assigned mailbox, we will also place packages there so be sure to check your mailbox often. Packages are not kept indefinitely. Packages that are not picked up in a timely manner are deemed unclaimed and then returned to sender.

I lost my mailbox combination. What do I do?

It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of their mailbox information. Only when absolutely necessary, mailroom staff can look up forgotten or lost information. You will need a picture ID to retrieve this information. You may also email crownmai@ucsc.edu to retrieve this information (be sure to send the email from your UCSC account).

It says my package has arrived online, but I don't have an email from the mailroom yet. Where is it?

If your package is small enough to fit inside your mailbox, we will usually put it there for you rather than logging it in and emailling you to pick it up. Please check your assigned mailbox to see if the delivery is inside. If you know the package is larger and you have received a notification from your postal carrier prior to receiving the Crown mailroom email notification, please be patient and know that we will contact you very soon. It may take a few more days for your package to reach the college mailroom. There are several reasons why there may be a delay between these two notifications:

Many other students are ordering packages at the same time:
Certain times of the year are busier than others for packages and it can sometimes take an extra day or so to catch up on all the backlogs. We get a VERY large influx of packages at the beginning of each quarter due to textbook orders and students ordering new items for their dorms.

Your carrier preemptively notified you before it arrived:
Postal carriers frequently notify you that they’ve dropped the package off in Santa Cruz, but this does not necessarily mean that it has made it to the mailroom quite yet. Packages can take an extra few days to get from the Santa Cruz Post Office up to campus.

The package was incorrectly addressed:
If you misspell your name, use a nickname, forget to put your name in the address, or use an incorrect address on your package, it will cause delays in your package being logged in because we’ll spend extra time trying to figure for whom it was intended.

Where can I mail a letter?

Your Crown College mailroom is not a full service post office, a UPS or FedEx pick-up spot.

The closest U.S. mailbox for outgoing mail is located near the Crown Circle (next to the Crown administrative building). Be sure to put your mail in the blue USPS box. The white box (also located near the Crown Circle) is for intercampus mail.
