Incorrectly addressed mail will be delayed or returned to sender.

“[Carrier] says my package arrived but it’s not ready for pickup. Why?”

  • Carriers notify delivered packages as soon as they are dropped off, wherever that may be. Once a package is physically delivered it must be scanned into our system as received. Please be patient and know we will contact you soon.

  • Everyone is ordering packages at once. We receive 100-400 pieces of mail and packages a day, more at the beginning of each quarter due to textbook orders, students ordering new items for their dorms, Black Friday, holidays, and breaks. Sometimes we get so many we cannot enter the Mailroom. It takes extra time to process large waves of packages.

  • Package incorrectly addressed. Name misspellings, nicknames, no name, and incorrect addresses cause delays in package processing because we have to spend extra time figuring out who the package is for.

  • It’s in your mailbox. Small packages are sometimes placed in your mailbox, and your delivery may be inside.

  • Spin the lock LEFT (counter-clockwise) to the first number
  • Spin the lock RIGHT (clockwise), pass the first number, then land on the second number
  • Spin the lock LEFT (counter-clockwise) to the third number
  • Turn the lock RIGHT (clockwise) to open and pull the lock toward you.
  • Close and spin the lock several times in any direction to reset.

Mailbox assignments are emailed every year at the end of Summer/beginning of Fall.

All students living at Crown College are assigned a mailbox. Village residents and off-campus affiliates are also entitled to a mailbox upon request.

Mailboxes are usually shared with another student. Be respectful of your peer’s mail and never remove or open mail not addressed to you. It is important to check your mailbox frequently and carefully sort out your mail to avoid an overflowing mailbox.

Email us if you are a Crown student living off-campus or experiencing houselessness and would like a mailbox.

Mailbox assignments expire at the end of Spring quarter of the academic year. Students staying in the area for Summer Session can request a mailbox from your summer session college, or inquire at USPS for General Delivery.

Students may re-apply for a Crown mailbox every year as long as you remain an active student.

You will receive an email notification from crownmailroom@ucsc.edu when a package is ready for pickup.

Bring your student ID to the Mailroom within 7 days to pick up your package. Due to space restrictions packages not picked up within 7 days are Returned to Sender to make room for new deliveries.

Remember small packages may be placed in your mailbox.

The Mailroom has limited service during the following breaks:
  • Spring Break

Email crownmailroom@ucsc.edu to request your mailbox combination, or bring a photo ID to ask for it in person.

Email crownmailroom@ucsc.edu your name, the box number, and a description of the issue so we can fix or assign you another box.

The Mailroom is open during the academic year (September to June) and closes for the summer at the end of Spring Quarter. Summer mail is returned to sender, except for students staying for Summer Session.

Be sure to change your address as soon as possible when leaving campus.

Summer Session Students

Your mailbox will be at your college of residence during Summer Session, though there may be a 2 week interruption of services between the year ending and Summer Session starting. Coordinate with Summer Session on your summer mailbox assignment.

We cannot forward mail since we are not a post office. Be sure to update your new address before graduating or moving off campus as all unclaimed mail/packages are returned to sender.

USPS Informed Delivery allows you to view grayscale images of the exterior, address side of letter-sized mailpieces and track packages sent through USPS. Sign up for this free service on the USPS website.

*If you input your mailbox address and receive an error message saying “there are no units at that address”, click “Next” again and confirm the address is correct.

Yes, you can authorize a current UCSC student to pick up your package/mail. Email crownmailroom@ucsc.edu with their full name and college affiliation. They will need to present their student ID to pick up mail.

Direct food delivery drivers (Uber Eats, Dominos, GrubHub, Postmates, etc.) to the Crown Circle. It is up to you to pick up your order – due to food safety, the Crown Mailroom and Admin Office cannot hold or accept food orders for you. Coordinate with your driver/services directly for receiving mobile app orders.

  1. Schedule deliveries in the beginning of the week. The Mailroom is often closed on weekends. Boxes delivered on Friday may not be picked up until Monday.

  2. Pick up food deliveries as soon as possible. Crown College is not responsible for the condition of food subscription deliveries. Food delivery boxes are marked “urgent” for quick pickup. The Mailroom has no refrigeration or air conditioning. Food subscription boxes left in the Mailroom for prolonged periods of time may expire, attracting ants and rodents. Packages containing perishable food not picked up within 72 hours may be disposed for the health and safety of our staff and pest control.

To outside campus:

The closest location to drop off outgoing letters is in the blue USPS box in the Quarry Plaza outside of the Bay Tree Campus Store, or at Baskin Engineering. Please make sure you apply appropriate stamps to the letter mail based on USPS instructions.

To departments on campus:

Drop off intercampus mail in the white intercampus mailbox at the Crown Circle above KZSC Radio.

The Crown College Mailroom is not a post office, UPS, or FedEx pick-up spot.
