Crown Student Senate
Crown Student Senate (CSS) is a team of Crown students consisting of elected Senators and multiple Representatives, where any Crown-affiliated student can participate in meetings. CSS is an excellent way to know what’s happening at UCSC, get connected to Crown resources, and make real, tangible change in your community. Each year CSS allocates $50,000+ of Crown student fees to programs and events across campus that they believe are of benefit to Crown students. They sponsor and coordinate our annual Casino Night. CSS discusses and votes on issues affecting the everyday life of UCSC students and serves as the voice of Crown students to the campus student government (SUA) and a variety of administrative committees.
Within Crown Student Senate, any Crown affiliate can become a representative after three consecutive meetings’ attendance. If you are interested in being a Senator, email CSS at crownsen@ucsc.edu.
Funding Request Process
- Submit a Funding Request Form online by 4:00pm the Thursday prior to the week you intend to present.
- Email the Crown Student Senate Chair (crownsen@ucsc.edu) to schedule your presentation.
- Email the chair any additional material that you would like to be attached to the agenda.
- Be prepared to answer the following questions:
- When and where is your event?
- Provide an overview of your event, including the purpose and what will be happening during the event (e.g. speakers, activities, etc.)
- Who is this event for?
- Is it free for students? If not, who is the intended audience?
- If the event requires a purchased ticket, will there be a discount for Crown affiliates if CSS chooses to fund it?
- How will you be advertising?
- How will you recognize sponsors (e.g. posters, flyers, social media, etc.)?
- How many Crown affiliates will benefit from this event (i.e. what is the approximate number of Crownie attendance)?
- It’s totally ok if you don’t know, but if that information is available, it would be great to include that in your presentation.
- Do you know how many members of this organization/group are Crown affiliates?
- Where else have you gone to request for funding (e.g. SUA, SOFA, Provosts, etc.)?
- How much funding have you received so far, what is your goal, and/or how much are you expecting?
- What is your plan if you fall short of your funding goal (i.e. what will you prioritize, what will you cut out of your budget, do you have an option(s) for a lower budget, etc.)?
Requests may be delayed one or more weeks at the chair’s discretion in order to keep meeting times within a reasonable timeframe. A representative must be present at the meeting to present your funding request to answer questions about the proposal.
