Community Engagement through Leadership
Working on campus is a great way to develop leadership and learn new skills while making an income! All student jobs are managed through the Employee Request (ER) System.
Postion Descriptions
Residential Life
Create and maintain a cohesive community of 70 student residents. Create a variety of programs to foster students’ social and academic development. They are trained in conflict mediation and assist in roommate disputes. They are also the first line of policy enforcement at Crown College.
Supplemental Application Required
The RA application often has supplemental questions, essays, or presentations in addition to the application. Examples include:
(New Applicants) Answer each prompt in 250 words or less:
- Describe a time when you worked with others and received constructive feedback. How did you respond to that feedback? How did that response impact the team?
- Tell us your strengths and areas for growth. How did you gain awareness of these traits? How will you these apply in your position?
- Some people work best as part of a group – others prefer the role of individual contributor. How would you describe yourself? Give an example of a situation where you felt you were most effective.
(Returning Applicants) Give a 10 minute presentation during the interview of one of the following prompts:
- Please discuss and demonstrate a staff development activity that you would lead with your designated staff. Provide a facilitation guide of the activity and present it to the interview panel.Â
- Identify an area in which you see student staff needing additional training. Please develop and demonstrate how you would facilitate this training. Provide a facilitation guide of the training and present it to the interview panel.Â
- What do you see as some of the current trends and issues impacting students? Pick one trend to develop a strategy that addresses the issue. Provide a facilitation guide of the strategy and present it to the interview panel.
Support front desk operation. Answer phones, respond to student questions and lock outs, provide resources/information to students and staff, and provide general reception duties. Assist all staff with projects and cover the front desk duties when the Student Life Office Coordinator is absent.
Programs Office
Provide programming support to the College Programs Coordinator (CPC). Arrive at Crown 2-3 weeks prior to Move-in to begin preparation for Move-in, Fall Orientation, and Fall quarter programs. Plan, set up, participate in, and clean up college wide events. Crown College Night – collaboratively plan themes, decorations, education, entertainment, advertising and menu. Assist with set up, implementation and clean up. Create and post fliers and banner publicity, answer questions about Crown programs, set the quarterly schedule of events with the CPC. May have summer work depending on funding.
Participate in advance training in spring quarter. Arrive at Crown 2-3 weeks prior to Move-in to begin preparation for Move-in and Fall Orientation. Assist with opening day and orientation week events. Mentor new frosh and/or transfer students during orientation. Refer students to appropriate resources. May have summer work depending on funding.

Duties include photographing and archiving at Crown events, including College Nights, college-wide programs, and hall events. Successful representation of a year at Crown will require collecting and archiving/documenting photos from residential staff and students.
Post fliers and banners at Crown College. Manage public posting boards around the college.
Reservation and Event Coordination
Responsible for setting-up events at Crown and Merrill Colleges. Participants gain experience setting-up and using lighting systems, sound systems, and audio/visual systems, with very flexible work hours. The crew work to clean up and break down events, as well. Manual labor, increased knowledge of audio-visual equipment, and facility service are involved in these positions. You do not need experience for this position as long as you come prepared with a willingness to learn and a good attitude and work ethic.
Supervise and provide leadership and guidance to other Tech/Events Crew. Responsible for scheduling other Crew for events, meeting with the Reservations and Events Coordinator, and setting-up events at Crown and Merrill Colleges. Participants gain experience setting-up and using lighting systems, sound systems, and audio/visual systems. This position works to clean up, oversee, and break down events alongside Tech/Events Staff, while also taking on additional leadership responsibilities. Manual labor, increased knowledge of audio-visual equipment and facility service are involved in these positions.
College Advising
Advise students on academic matters; meet with students during orientation programs, drop-in hours and advising events; provide information and make referrals; advise students on GE requirements and course selection; organize educational workshops and seminars. Make and post fliers explaining opportunities, scholarships, internships, and academic deadlines. Participate in meetings to collaborate on programming ideas. Assist with various college and campus outreach programs.

Mail Room
Receive, process, sort, and deliver all mail for Crown College mail stop. Staff will learn and uphold all Federal regulations regarding the handling of mail.
Supervise and provide leadership and guidance to Mail Room Clerks. Schedule work hours, receive, process, sort, and deliver mail for Crown College mail stop. Staff will learn and uphold all Federal regulations regarding the handling of mail.
Dining Services
Prepare meal service and serve meals to the student community.
Facilities
Summer Work Crew work in work teams of 5-8 assisting maintenance staff with maintenance projects. Crew members paint, set up the Crown housing facilities for next year’s residents, and do minor repairs.
